And no, I don't mean the television show with the crabby doctor. :) Although I do enjoy it immensely.
Here's what's been going on with us for the past couple weeks...
The kids and I went to Maine to spend Christmas with my family. G stayed here, on the 23rd he took the ferry to KW to spend a few days with a friend. When he came home he discovered that our house had been broken into. They took a laptop that G brought home from the station, a case with our DVDs, some of his uniforms and a few shirts. And then the unwrapped presents we left under the tree to open with Daddy when we got home. The rental company replaced the deadbolt and doorknob at first and recently the whole door. We asked them to talk to the owner about a security system. I went out and got some prowler thingys for the windows and our three sliding glass doors.
We've now had three more things happen. Two Friday nights ago someone threw eggs and mustard at our garage door. The next day I discovered that the screen on the door that goes into our backyard had been cut and the latch was unlocked, we ALWAYS lock it. Monday morning I called the prop mgmt company to tell them about this and see where we were on gettting a security system. The woman (Donna) I spoke to didn't seem concerned or care that I'm barely sleeping at night for fear someone's going to come in. She still hadn't asked about the security system. Sunday morning when we went out we noticed a pile of change and tokens as well as tire tracks going up to the small garage door that we never use. Later that day I went out the front door and there was a Ziploc of quarters on the Welcome mat. Maybe I should get a Leave Us Alone mat instead. And that night while getting ready to put M to bed, I happened to look out her window and there was a car parked with its lights on in front of a patch of trees, nowhere near a house. It sat there another minute or two and then drove off. We plan to go to the police station to file reports on all of this. Although they don't seem to care either, they didn't even dust for prints after the break-in. Needless to say we will not be renewing our lease at the end of March.
Yesterday afternoon a salesman from an alarm system company stopped by. He was out in the neighborhood, trying to get some new business. (Burglary and home invasions on the rise is good for business.) G was very interested, but we had to see if the owner was doing anything about it first. Donna she had left msgs for the owner and not heard back, but that it was unlikely they would, especially with us moving in two months. Later I realized this was BS cause when I talked to her last Monday she said she had to get the owner to approve the cost of the new door and since I had a new door and the maint guy said the lady hadn't sprung for a new door frame, Donna had to have talked to her. We are giving them until today to tell us for sure if they're willing to put in a security system and then we're putting one in on our own tomorrow. The company will move it to our new place and set it up for us for free. Note to others, if you ever move to this area, DO NOT rent from Gulfstream Realty & Development, Inc.
